Dear Legends of Sports,

I have been a die hard fan of Evander’s since 1987, but I must agree with you and say the man is mad to be obsessed with this “I wont retire until I am the undisputed champion” business. The way he is going, he could be fighting beyond his 50th birth date and I would not be surprised if he is still going at 60. Why, why and why cant he leave and enjoy his money and family life, only he knows, but to “normal” people like us, we just see him as a stubborn crazy man, everything has a time and place, so even if he was to win all the titles now, it would be an achievement for him, but still not a big deal, because it would show the weakness of the division. He had his chance to unify the title against Lennox Lewis in 1999, but blew his chance, he is lucky to have won the title for the 4th time since, In one way, I think the boxing governors all over the globe should ban him for the sake of his health, but in another, I think they would be taking away his human right, so it’s a tricky one, because if a man is depraved off his passion (even though getting bashed by numerous ordinary fighters year after year is not passion at all) then he might indulge into something even more worse, and even criminal activity.It’s a sad situation, fighters normally fight late in their career for money, but he does not have that problem. I think he always thrived on proofing people wrong, like moving up weight and winning title, but the win over Tyson has transformed his ego and stubbornness beyond anything.
